Cancer Rehabilitation at UNC
The University of Northern Colorado Cancer Rehabilitation Institute is a truly unique program and is recognized as a frontrunner in the field of cancer rehabilitation. Our expertise has been developed over the last two decades by delivering clinical cancer rehabilitation services, providing educational opportunities and experiences in cancer rehabilitation, and conducting cutting-edge research in exercise-based cancer rehabilitation.
We have a 10,000 square-foot facility completely dedicated to our mission of improving the quality of life for cancer survivors. This is accomplished through three distinctive programs designed to serve, investigate, and educate.
The UNCCRI Community
“UNCCRI has been such a wonderful blessing in my life. This program brought me new physical and mental strength and a renewed hope to live a healthy life! My specialist was able to design a special fitness plan to suit my physical ability. What I loved best about UNCCRI was the friendly, loving and supportive environment from all the staff and trainers. I am so very thankful for UNCCRI pouring into my life.” —Dana Dunlap

The Institute provides service learning opportunities, linking together the community, the UNC campus, and cancer survivors. We have helped thousands regain quality of life, reduce depression, attenuate fatigue, improve cardiovascular function, enhance muscular performance and increase flexibility and balance.
Educational Opportunities
The Institute offers an evidence-based, cutting-edge educational curriculum. Educational opportunities are available for UNC undergraduate and graduate students, as well as healthcare professionals seeking training in cancer rehabilitation. The Institute also offers an international Clinical Cancer Exercise Specialist certification.
Research Initiatives
The Institute conducts translational research with a focus of improving the quality of life of cancer patients by alleviating cancer treatment-related symptoms through prescriptive exercise rehabilitation. Research initiatives by the UNCCRI have produced over 100 peer reviewed publications.
