Spanish for the Professions Certificate

UNC is Colorado's newest Hispanic Serving Institution, and as part of its focus on building and fostering cultural responsiveness, this new certificate program in Spanish for the Professions equips students who are preparing for careers in business, criminal justice, or health care to communicate effectively with native Spanish-speaking stakeholders.

Why pursue this certificate?

Adding a focus in Spanish communication to your current UNC degree program will not only expand your ability to speak, write and understand the second most spoken language in the U.S., it will also broaden your access to a massive global community and make you more appealing to any prospective employers for a number of reasons, including the facts that:

• Employers prefer, and in some cases require, bilingual applicants.
• Over 40% of Greeley's population is Hispanic/Latinx.
• Hispanics/Latinx are the largest growing minority group in the U.S.
• Speaking Spanish increases your earning potential by 20%.

Certificate Requirements — 18 credits

  Students whose prior experience with Spanish results in a placement test score beyond SPAN 100 may, on completion of their first Spanish language course with a "B" grade or higher, ask their academic advisor to submit a Prior Learning Credit form, to receive credit for the lower-level Spanish prerequisite courses.
